Adult learning for sustainable development

The third theme chosen by the International Council for the World Assembly focuses on adult education and sustainable development. The objective of the theme is:

  • to contribute to responding to crises at the local, regional and global levels in the context of a globalized world characterized by rapid changes in the areas of the economy, governance, the labor market and climate;
  • to reflect the need for a paradigm shift in determining discussion topics other than the dominant themes.

The introductory text found below was prepared by a working committee of the International Council for Adult Education.

Main Themes

of the World Assembly

All along the Assembly, these themes will be developed through panels, seminars, workshops, keynote speeches, presentation of papers and applied theatre.

Plenary sessions will have translation facilities in English, French and Spanish. Workshops will where possible be bi- or tri-lingual, and the language of sessions will be clearly identified in the final programme.
